Getting your invention out there to the market is not an easy task especially when you don’t have the right help and information. Sometimes we might have to defer our dream, but with the right information and support, you can work toward a successful achievement without spending a fortune.

First, and foremost, do not rush to the patent attorney, start the patent process. The obvious reason is that until you have invention ideas of market expectations for your invention, there is no point spending a relatively large sum money on a patent. A very rare patent attorney will give you solid marketing advice. In fact, most lawyers, although they are experts in their specialty, are not experts when it comes to the possibilities of your invention to make you money.

So, the first two steps are to get expert opinions: Firstly If your invention is marketing? And secondly, Can your invention be patented?

Is Your Invention Marketable?

Is It Marketable: Unlike the psychological value, there is no value to an invention that cannot succeed in the market. Thus, your first step is always to determine the viability of your invention for marketing, by seeking the opinion of  your friends, colleagues, and relatives what they think, talk to chain store buyers, ask the inventors and mentor, and conduct some research on the Internet.

Friends and relatives opinion are mostly biased on your favor. They want you to succeed. Although they swear they would buy your invention if it were on the market that encouragement was rarely sound. It is OK to ask, but your hopes should not entirely base on their opinions, whether positive or negative.

Inventors help would provide advice, not just an assessment. Explain which channel or channels look better for your invention, and why. And if you prefer a license (or a lump sum sale), they can quickly link you to a licensing agent who will work with you to find the manufacturer that you want to invent.

Can Your Innovation Be Patented?

Not every invention requires a patent. But if you plan to license your invention to the manufacturer (or sell it outright), you must have a patent. No one will pay you just for an idea about a product. Companies are deemed to have all inventions in the public domain until proven otherwise by obtaining a patent. Thus, the first step in patent registration is to find out if your invention is eligible for a patent. This is done by completing the patent search. To determine how patented patents affect your invention, and whether or not you can obtain a patent, you must have an opinion on the patent. Your opinion about the patent should be in writing and should be prepared by a patent attorney.

Marketing Your Innovation

Through marketing I mean one of two possible approaches: license (or explicit sale) your patent rights, or produce it and transfer it to the market. Should I produce or license? To produce your invention yourself, you should consider whether you are or have not been an entrepreneur. If you are a kind of inventor who comes up with many ideas and inventions, it may be a lot of creative types to be successful as an entrepreneur. But if you are the kind of person that is organized, focused, goal oriented, and gets things done, production may be the best course for you.

By producing I do not necessarily mean that you must prepare a production line in your garage or basement. Today, many producers operate from the internet. It is possible to have an item invented abroad, ship it to a fulfilling service, and take orders online that are directly related to the fulfillment service without a direct contact with the product. So put your creative cap on and get it done now!
